Mogadishu (HOL) - A former embassy official has been named the Mayor of Mogadishu on Thursday.
Thabit M Abdi, a former Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Somalia in the US was named as the Mayor of the Mogadishu and Governor of the Banadir region in a press conference held by the President.
Thabit will replace Yusuf Hussein Jimale who was Mayor since November 2015.
The changes come at the heels of a major reshuffling of the security apparatus in Somalia. President Farmajo announced new chiefs for the intelligence, military and police.
