MOGADISHU (HOL) -Former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has dismissed claims that his meeting with spy chief Fahad Yasin in his residence Monday was connected to succession politics.
President Mohamud who is also the head of UPD Party said the meeting was apolitical and was ‘just one among many’ with several leaders in the country.
“Our meeting in my residence was not political,” the former head of state said. “We did not discuss politics, and neither was it part of the agenda. I am a Somali elder, and everyone is welcome at my house,” he said in a tweet.
There was speculation in the social media following reports of the meeting with many linking it to the upcoming elections and appointment of a new prime minister.
Yasin who heads the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) is known to be an influential political dealer and reportedly played a crucial role in the election of President Mohamed Farmaajo in 2017.
