SUPPLIED - Mogadishu - Afgooye road under construction
Qatar, represented by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), continues to support development projects in Somalia with the start of asphalt-paving work on the Mogadishu-Afgoye road.
This is part of the Somalia Roads Project that includes the construction of two roads: Mogadishu-Jawhar road and the Mogadishu-Afgoye road, with a length of 112km.
The length of the Mogadishu-Afgoye road is 22km. The project will contribute to providing an ideal infrastructure in the fraternal Somalia by establishing highways between the capital, Mogadishu, and neighbouring cities (Afgoye, Balad and Jawhar).
"It will also contribute mainly to moving the wheel of development in Somalia by exporting agricultural materials from the city of Jawhar through the port of Mogadishu, in addition to contributing to creating jobs for the Somali people through construction works, as the Somali cadres are a major factor in the project," the official Qatar News Agency said in a report on Wednesday.
The Public Works Authority has provided technical support to the project, while Astad Project Management is participating as a project supervision consultant.
Qatar Fund for Development laid the foundation stone for the two road projects last year during a ceremony sponsored by the president of Somalia and in the presence of Khalifa al-Kuwari, director-general of QFFD, in addition to a high-ranking delegation from the Fund. The project is a development initiative with a long-term impact, which guarantees a lot of benefit for residents of the region.
