MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somali Forces Monday repulsed an Al-Shabaab attack in Bay region state killing five militants.
Awdinle district commissioner in Bay region Ibrahim Mohamed Nur told journalists the soldiers pushed back the militants killing five and injuring several others.
According to Nur, the militants attacked the army base Monday morning but the soldiers fought back denying them control of the base.
Al-Shabaab has on several occasions attempted to capture Awdinle town but have not been successful.
The militants control large swathes of Bay region.
The attack comes barely two days after the militants launched twin attacks in Baidoa and Mogadishu killing at least seven people.
