Mogadishu-Afgooye road construction resumes after terror attack

MOGADISHU (HOL) -  Construction of the Mogadishu- Afgooye road which was halted in January following bomb attack against Turkish engineers building the road has resumed.

Turkish engineers have starting Sunday moved into the site as lorries transporting construction materials were spotted.

The Turkish funded project which runs for 120 kilometres once completed is billed as a major reconstruction project undertaken by the current administration.

It will linked the capital and the agriculturally productive Lower Shabelle region.

A car bomb attack killed two Turkish engineers and injured 11 other people among them four Turkish nationals in January leading to suspension of the construction works.

A Turkish company secured the tender to build the road which is funded to the tune of $200 million by Qatar.

Prime Minister Hassan Khaire had earlier pledged to provide a security team dedicated to protecting the construction workers.
