A second teenager has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Hassan Jama in Highfields, Leicester at the weekend.

The 19-year-old suspect, who is from Leicester, was arrested in Gloucester last night and is police custody this morning, Leicestershire Police said.

He is the second person to be arrested in connection with Mr Jama's death in Bartholomew Street, off St Stephens Road, in the early hours of Saturday.

An 18-year-old man remains in custody.

A post-mortem examination has concluded Mr Jama died of a single stab wound, police have reported.

Officers have remained in the neighbourhood throughout the weekend, speaking to residents and searching for witnesses.

Leaflets printed in four languages – English, Somali, Punjabi and Gujarati – asking for people to come forward with information are being distributed.

Detective Inspector Nicole Main said: “Our investigation to bring those responsible for Hassan’s death is continuing and a second man has been arrested as a result of our inquiries.

“But we are still appealing for help from communities living within the Highfields area of Leicester.

“If you have any information that could help our investigation, but have not yet spoken to police, then please come forward. It is not too late to do so.

“Anything you know or any details you can provide about what happened in the early hours of Saturday morning could be vital.”
