MOGADISHU (HOL) - Abdi Tahlil Warsame whose songs and poetry conveyed praise of the Siad Barre regime but also warned of a uncertain future has died in Mogadishu.
At 68, having left a mark in Somalia’s Music Hall of Fame, composed a praise song for the military regime and spoke to generations ahead of him, Tahlil bowed out in the wee hours of Thursday.
His daughter, Hamdi Abdi Tahlil confirmed her father’s demise noting he had been ill for sometime.
“The condition of my father had deteriorated in the last two nights. We took him to Hawa Abdi hospital where he passed at 2.25am,” said Hamdi.
Tahlil was a consummate musician and poet whose music enchanted many in the 1970s and 80s.
