MOGADISHU (HOL) - Puntland Minister of Agriculture Ismail Diriye Gama’did has this morning died in Mogadishu after contracting the deadly COVID-19.
Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni announced Monday the death of the agriculture minister confirming he had tested positive for COVID-19.
Deni said the minister ‘has been battling the virus in recent days in a city (Mogadishu)’.
Gama’did becomes the second regional state official to die of the disease following the death of HirShabelle Justice Minister Khalif Mumin who died in Mogadishu in April.
Mumin had then been transferred from Jowhar after falling ill.
Other officials have contracted the disease including Puntland minister of trade Abdullahi Abdi Hirsi who tested positive for COVID-19 in March.
Former Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein died in early April in London of COVID-19.
