Wednesday May 27, 2020

GaROWE (HOL) - Puntland President Abdullahi Deni and his deputy Ahmed Karaash have pledged to resolve their differences which have in recent weeks spilled into the public, a mediation team has said.

A civil society umbrella, Puntland Non-State Actors' Association (PUNSAA) said Wednesday it had received the assurance of the two leaders to end the row following a mediation.

PUNSAA chairman Faisal Qaran told the media the differences between the two leaders were administrative and not personal adding talks were underway to end the stalemate.

Karaash went public Monday accusing his boss of sidelining him in decisions regarding appointment of senior public officials. In particular, Karaash took issue with the removal of deputy commander of the presidential security unit Colonel Abdiqani Mohamed Harbi.

Karash said in an interview with BBC Somalia president Deni no longer consulted him violating provisions of the state constitution which demands the president consults his deputy on appointment of senior government officials.

“The President has demonstrated he is no longer respecting my role as Vice President,” said Karaash.
Deni relieved Harbi of his role mid this month and replaced him with Abdirizak Ahmed Ali.

Meanwhile newly appointed ministers were sworn in Tuesday.

Among them were two ministers and five deputies.
