MOGADISHU (HOL) - A mortar attack targeting Villa Somalia on Wednesday killed two people and injured half a dozen others.
Neighbours said the victims - two women - were killed when the mortar landed on a family home.
At least three mortar shells landed in Villa Somalia, the seat of Somalia’s president, as tensions in the city intensify over the ongoing electoral stalemate.
Sources told HOL two other shells landed within the neighbourhood of Villa Somalia.
Authorities have not yet responded to the incident.
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Similar mortar shells hit the UN compound in February and March, destroying property, but the UN said staff members were not harmed.
