MOGADISHU (HOL) - Popular Somali songstress and actress Haredo Ismail, aka Duniyo, whose voice ruled the airwaves on Radio Moqdisho, has died.
Family and other sources said Duniyo died on Tuesday in London, but the circumstances surrounding her demise were not immediately apparent.
Duniyo was one of the three female musicians who pioneered live radio performance on Radio Moqdisho.
She also acted in various dramas featured on Radio Moqdisho, including "Xuudbaa liqay jaceylku," roughly translated to "the love was swallowed by a whale".
