MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somalia’s international partners have approved a $7.7 million funding to support the country in conducting parliamentary and presidential elections.
A meeting by the representatives from the international community and Somali officials Monday signed the funding agreement that will fund the ongoing elections. A tweet from the UN Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) noted the funding will cover public awareness, elections operations and efforts to realise the 30% women quota.
The Federal Government is yet to make public the cost of the elections. Federal Member State governments have already started the election of senators.
So far, Jubbaland has elected four senators while Southwest parliament has since picked five senators.
The Puntland government Monday released the full list of candidates who will contest for the senate elections.
