Somali PM Roble arrives in Kenya for official visit

Tuesday August 10, 2021

Somalia Prime Minister Mohammed Hussein Roble has arrived in Kenya for an official visit.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday announced that the Prime Minister's visit was to further strengthen bilateral relations between Kenya and Somalia.

Hussein Roble was received on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Foreign Affairs CS Ambassador Raychelle Omamo.

Somalia recently affirmed its commitment to restore and accelerate diplomatic, trade, and people-to-people relations for the prosperity of Somalia and Kenya.
Somalia had insisted that Kenya was interfering with its domestic politics, leading to the severing of diplomatic relations on November 30, 2020.

Somalia also claimed there is a violation of the airspace of Somalia, violation of Somalia's land borders and that Kenyan forces, led by Amisom, leave their positions and move on to other locations and recognition and collaboration with the Jubaland Regional State.

Kenya denied the claims.

Both countries agreed to work together to regain diplomatic ties.

“The Federal Government of Somalia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation avails itself at the earliest opportunity and proposes formation for a joint committee with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Government of Kenya to come up with modalities leading to full restoration of diplomatic ties between the two nations,” Somalia said through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It added that the positive gesture from Kenya is a starting point to commence negotiations aimed at full normalisation of diplomatic relations.

“The two brotherly nations have always collaborated in security, trade and mutual cultural relations which are based on common interests, good neighborliness, respect for sovereignty and political indolence.”
