Somalia PM to hold talks with Uhuru in Mombasa

Somalia Prime Minister Mohamed Roble is expected in Kenya on Tuesday for an official visit on invitation by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to Somalia’s Foreign Affairs minister Mohamed Abdirizak, PM Roble will meet President Kenyatta in Mombasa, where he has been since arriving from his UK visit.

He will later proceed to Nairobi to meet the Somali community and visit the embassy.
The visit comes just a day after Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo visited Somalia on Sunday, where she met minister Abdirizak, Roble and President Mohamed Farmaajo.

During the talks, Prime Minister Roble said his visit to Kenya would seek to strengthen the bilateral relations.

The relations between Kenya and Somalia have in the recent past been frosty, with counter-accusations about interference with domestic affairs, territorial integrity over the Indian Ocean maritime dispute, miraa trade and security.

The talks between President Kenyatta and PM Roble are expected to centre on the Indian Ocean maritime dispute, which is at the International Court of Justice, the miraa trade, security and the Somalia elections.
During the talks, the two ministers agreed to "expeditiously" organise the third Session of the Somalia–Kenya Joint Commission for Cooperation.

This, according to the joint communique, is the joint framework through which the two states will negotiate and develop modalities for implementing commitments in diplomatic relations, trade and investment, education and capacity building; agriculture, livestock development, fisheries and the Blue Economy; defence and security; tourism and people-to-people interactions.

They also agreed to facilitate meetings of the Joint Technical Committee of the ministries responsible for security, border management and migration to convene on a priority basis to consider ease movement of people, goods and services across the common border and measures to counter illicit trade and illegal migration.
Additionally, they  committed to work together, with other states in the region and the international community to promote peace and security within the Horn of Africa region.
