MOGADISHU (HOL) - Lower House speaker Mohamed Mursal has ruled out talks of term extension during President Mohamed Farmaajo’s address this afternoon.
Reacting to reports that Farmaajo was intent at seeking term extension from the House this afternoon, Mursal said such claims were not part of today’s agenda. The president returned from Dhsuamareb last evening after electoral talks with Federal Member State leaders collapsed.
He said that the president will only brief the lawmakers on the situation of the country and way forward on the electoral disputes.
Farmaajo was expected to present a joint agreement to the House for approval but returned empty-handed.
Earlier in the sitting, before the president arrived, Mursal asked Senators to leave noting today’s session was for MPs only.
The term of the president lapses on February 8 in line with the dictates of the constitution.
