MOGADISHU (HOL) - Security forces have dispersed opposition demonstrators in Mogadishu barely half an hour since the demonstrations kicked off.
Sources in the city said security forces moved in to counter the group led by former prime minister Hassan Khaire and Wadajir party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur.
The development comes barely seven hours after government forces clashed with opposition militias around Daljirka Dahsoon area.
The opposition and government traded accusations on the clash with each side accusing the other of starting the confrontation.
Former presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Sheikh Sharif Ahmed said government forces attacked their hotel at night.
Despite the ban on the demos, the opposition has insisted they will soldier on and called on their supporters to turn out in large numbers.
