Mogadishu (HOL) - Mohamed Hassan Irro has been elected as the new chairman of Somalia's Indirect Electoral Commission
The elected chairman won the second round with 14 votes, while his rival Liban Mohamed Hassan received ten votes.
Irro was elected by a secret ballot.
Mawlid Matan Salad, a lawyer and former disputed deputy chairman of the Electoral Commission, also won the election of the Deputy Chairman of the Federal Electoral Commission.
The newly elected chairman Mohamed Hassan Irro and his deputy Mowlid Matan Salad were previously both the chairman and deputy chairman of the disputed Federal Electoral Commission that faced stiff criticism from the Council of Presidential Candidates, Jubbaland and Puntland.
Mohamed Hassan Irro is widely considered to be an ally of President Farmajo.
Presidential elections are scheduled to take place on October 10th.
