MOGADISHU (HOL) - Former Deputy Prime Minister Fawzia Adam has launched her bid for president becoming the first female candidate to join the race.
Adam announced at a ceremony in Mogadishu Wednesday she will be battling it out with over 40 candidates who have since expressed their intentions to vie for office in the October 10 elections.
She said her decision to run for office was informed by the need to change the course of politics in Somalia.
"My sole aim is to breath a new lease of life into Somalia. Our political ideology and believes are at the heart and soul of our political trajectory in deciding the best way Forward for my nation," the former Deputy PM who is also a current MP representing Somaliland in the Federal Parliament said.
Adam was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs in November 2012 and served until January 2014.
She becomes the first female candidate to join the Presidential race which has since attracted over 40 candidates.
A joint session of the Federal Parliament will elect a new president in October 10.
