Mogadishu (HOL) - The new British Ambassador to Somalia, Kate Foster, held a virtual meeting with the members of the Council of Presidential Candidates n Friday to discuss the political stalemate that has thrown Somalia into a constitutional crisis.
Foster tweeted about the meeting and urged inclusivity in the stalled polls.
"Constructive meeting with the Council for Presidential Candidates earlier. It is important that all voices are heard. The U.K. urges all sides to continue the dialogue and find a way forward to deliver credible and inclusive elections."
Foster presented her credentials to President Farmajo on Wednesday. By Thursday, she had already arranged a sit-down with Jubaland regional President Ahmed Madobe on Monday in Mogadishu to hear his position on the electoral debacle. She replaced Ben Fender, who was ambassador since February 2019.
Her U.S. counterpart, Donald Yamamoto, also met with Ahmed Madobe and the leading figures within the Council of Presidential Candidates in two separate meetings this week.
