GAROWE (HOL) - Puntland witnessed an increase in Covid-19 deaths following the recent district council elections in three districts, the regional government had said.
Health Minister Dr. Jama Mohamed said Sunday 'several' people had been infected and others have died in recent days.
He linked the new infections to the recent elections which saw thousands of residents ljne up to vote.
Dr. Mohamed however did not disclose any figures regarding the infections.
The minister also warned of a new increase in Covid-19 infections owing to thr expected cold season.
According to the figures issued by the Ministry of Health in Mogadishu, the country recorded 1,424 cases in October with the highest in Somaliland at 960 followed by Puntland with 313 cases.
A total or 114 people died during the same period according to the Ministry of Health bringing the death toll to 1,294 since the pandemic struck Somalia in March 2020.
