Qatar Charity-sponsored students among Mogadishu University’s toppers

Thursday November 11, 2021

Mogadishu University president said many of the students sponsored by Qatar Charity (QC) in Somalia emerge toppers at various colleges of the university.

The president was speaking during a ceremony celebrating the graduation of the 21st batch of the university’s students sponsored by Qatar Charity.

Some 209 sponsored students, both male and female, graduated from the university’s different undergraduate programmes in the academic year 2020-2021.

"We are honoured to celebrate the graduation of the students sponsored by Qatar Charity,” the Mogadishu University president said at the graduation ceremony adding that the Qatari people have stood by the Somali people in times of adversity.

He added that the students sponsored by QC always fared extremely well in various colleges. The university president voiced his appreciation and gratitude to the donors and Qatar Charity for helping students who cannot afford to study at the university.

The graduation celebration was attended by many ministers, representatives of the House of the People, president of the university, chairman of the board of regents of the university, deans of the colleges, presidents of private universities, director of Qatar Charity’s Somalia office, and parents of the graduates.

The graduates thanked their benefactors in Qatar and QC for supporting their studies.

Delivering the graduates’ speech, Abdel Nasser Ahmed, a graduate of international relations, said Qatar Charity’s scholarship marks an impactful milestone in the life of the graduates. He thanked all the donors who helped them achieve what they thought impossible.

Somaya Ali Ahmed, a graduate of economics and administrative sciences, said: “One of my dreams came true thanks to the benefactors who considered me as one of their children, taking care of me and extending material and moral support to me."

Hassan Abdul-Jabbar Ainab, a graduate of political science and public administration, expressed delight on his graduation. He noted that Qatar Charity's efforts have been instrumental in changing his life and that of his family for the better.

QC benefits from the graduates’ skills and capabilities in many ways. Four graduates from last year joined Qatar Charity’s Somalia office as orphan supervisers.
