Jigjiga (HOL) - Residents from the Aware district in the Jarar region of Somali Regional State of Ethiopia say that over 30 locals were hospitalized on Friday after consuming tainted camel meat.
The source added that before being butchered, the camel was very sick and had been suffering from diarrhea.
All of those who fell ill are currently being treated at nearby health facilities, with 24 being taken to Degahbur town.
In many rural and remote communities, herders are more likely to slaughter an animal dying or in pain.
Camel meat is the staple meat for most Somalis in the area.
