Galmudug State Minister of Information, Ahmed Shire Falagle
Mogadishu (HOL) - Galmudug State Government has denied reports that the town of Dhusamareb is under attack by Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a, which used to control the central regions of Somalia.
Through the information minister Ahmed Shire Falagle accused independent media outlets of taking advantage of their freedom to confuse the public with false information.
Dhusamerab is the capital city of Galmudug State.
Minister Falagle confirmed that Ahlu Sunna officials are in Galgadud, but he denied that fighters are being mobilized.
He said Galmudug did not see any problem with Ahlu Sunna returning to their areas and visiting, which he said was part of Galmudug's flexibility.
In recent days, military activity has been reported in Galgadud after Ahlu Sunna forces were spotted in parts of Galgadud.
There are also reports of army officers who have joined Ahlu Sunna with their weapons, and it is feared that Ahlu Sunna will attempt to capture the towns of Dhusamareb and Guriel.
Top Ahlu Sunna leaders recently criticized the Galmudug administration in the media, saying they have neglected the areas liberated from Al-Shabaab.
In 2018, the Galmudug administration and Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a (ASWJ) signed a historic agreement in Dhusamareb. The event was presided over by President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo.
Several people, including a police officer, were wounded early this year when a mortar attack targeted the city.
