Somalia reopens MOVCON terminal

Tuesday April 12, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's internal security ministry announced that the Movement Control Section (MOVCON) terminal in Mogadishu's international airport - used by foreign diplomats - would reopen on Tuesday after a three-day closure.

The terminal was closed on April 9 by Security Minister Abdullahi Mohamed Nur, who cited the recent expulsion of African Union envoy Francisco Madeira as the main reason. The order came after the African Union rejected the PM's decision to sack the Maderia.

Minister of Relief and Disaster Management Khadijo Mohamed Diriye welcomed the reopening of the Movecon terminal. She said it was being used for relief purposes.

MOVCON s a critical function for the United Nations and ATMIS. It is responsible for air transport operations involving the dispatch of supplies to troops, cargo, passengers, casualty evacuation and medical evacuation.
