‎Somali Prime Minister travels to Switzerland for aid conference

Mogadishu (HOL) -  Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble led a delegation to Geneva, Switzerland, on Sunday to attend‎ an international conference on the severe drought in the Horn of Africa.

The Prime Minister is expected to address the meeting, which will be attended by senior leaders and ministers from donor countries, on "the dire need for concerted efforts to mitigate the drought situation in Somalia."

‎Prime Minister Roble said that he is determined to draw the international community's attention to the drought situation in Somalia to help the vulnerable Somali people.‎

‎After three years without rain, Somalia faces its worst drought in more than 40 years.  The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, Adam Abdelmoula, predicts that 350,000 of the 1.4 million severely malnourished children in Somalia will die if nothing is done.

The World Food Programme (WFP) projects that close to 20 million people face hunger in the Horn of Africa region due to delayed rains.
