Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's new lower house parliament erupted in chaos on Saturday after two groups of lawmakers elected from the Gedo constituency were allowed to enter the parliament session.
There are 32 MPs elected from the Gedo region in two separate elections in Elwak and Garbaharey. However, both sets of lawmakers were not participated in voting for the lower house speakers' election in Mogadishu.
MPs elected from Elwak told the media that members without ID cards were allowed to enter the parliament building. In contrast, the other MPs elected from Garbaharey said they entered the parliament legitimately.Dispute Resolution Committee chairman, Mohamed Awil Warsame, has dismissed the two elections in Elwak and Garbaharey in the Gedo region as illegal. He said that both violated the September 17th agreement reached by the leaders of the National Consultative Forum.
