Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's outgoing Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Duran Ahmed Farah, handed over leadership of the Ministry to Fardowso Osman Igal on Tuesday, making her the first woman to hold this portfolio.
The handover ceremony, which took place at the Ministry's headquarters in Mogadishu, was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Salah Ahmed Jama, the Director General of the Ministry, and the managers of the Aviation Authority and other officials.
The former minister of Transport and Aviation, Duran Ahmed Farah, briefed the new minister about the ongoing activities of the Ministry and pledged that he would continue helping his successor and the government.
The new minister expressed her commitment to advancing plans for the country's development of aviation and transportation services, demonstrating that she will endeavour to enhance the priorities agendas of the Ministry.
"This ministry is a mirror of the country; I want it to show people its role," she added.
Outgoing Minister of Finance Dr. Abdirahman Beileh has also handed over the Ministery's leadership to his successor Dr. Elmi M. Nur, following a ceremony at the Ministry of Finance in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
"It was a true honour and privilege to serve Somalia and our resilient people. I am confident the economic reforms will continue & outcomes will benefit us all", Beileh said.
