Jowhar deputy airport Manager killed in landmine blast

Mahad Muhidin Alasow, the deputy manager of Jowhar Airport,  was killed by an Al Shabaab landmine attack on Sunday. Alasow was described as well-known in the Jowhar community and a familiar face around Mohamed Dheere Airport.

Jowhar (HOL) - Authorities in Jowhar have confirmed that two people were killed in Sunday's landmine blast outside of Jowhar.

Mahad Muhidin Alasow, the deputy manager of Jowhar Airport, and a police officer were killed on Sunday morning when their vehicle struck a landmine that was laid by Al Shabaab militants near Handholey, about 95km north of the capital Mogadishu.

Jowhar's Airport Manager, Mukhtar Abukar Moalim, said that three others are recovering from serious in a nearby hospital from injuries sustained in the attack, including the commander of the airport police unit, Captain Muse.

The militant insurgency group Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
