Jowhar (HOL) - General Mohamed Talil Bihi, the commander of Somalia's land forces, paid a visit to soldiers and elders in Middle Shabelle, not far from where Somali forces killed
88 Al Shabaab fighters.
The General was accompanied by senior officers, including Hirshabelle Police Commander Col Hassan Dhi'isow and spent Friday afternoon in the sparsely populated forested villages between Gulane and Juhay.
At a press conference on Thursday, Somalia's Deputy Information Minister Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala announced that joint government and local allied militia attacked militants who were regrouping in the area and captured Juhay village. Security analysts believe that joint forces received US drone support on December 14 and 15.
The federal government recently said that the offensive has killed more than 600 al-Shabab militants and captured dozens of villages in central Somalia. Prime Minister Hamza Barre said this week while visiting the newly captured Adan Yabal village in Middle Shabelle that Al Shabab militants should be hunted down relentlessly, even in mosques.
