MOGADISHU (HOL) - A second batch of humanitarian supplies from UAE landed at Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu following the resumption of diplomatic engagements between Somalia and the Gulf nation.
The consignment of food and medical supplies were received by Humanitarian Affairs Minister Khadijo Diriye.
The supply is the second batch following re-engagement between UAE and the Federal Government led by Prime Minister Mohamed Roble. President Mohamed Farmaajo has however rejected the new detente given his affiliation with Qatar.
PM Roble traveled to UAE last week and was expected to facilitate the delivery of the $9.6 million seized by security forces in 2018.
However Banaadir Regional Court's issued an order restraining the Central Bank from returning the money.
The food aid comes amid a biting drought that has plunged millions of Somalis into starvation. The UN estimates 7.7 million people are facing starvation this year up from 5 million last year.
