Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud performed the Eid Al Adha prayer on Saturday morning alongside Prime Minister Hamza Barre, MPs, government officials and hundreds of people at the newly constructed Ali Jimale Mosque in Mogadishu.
"This mosque was constructed on government-provided land; I want to thank the Somali people for making a voluntary investment in it. It is a positive indication that the government and its people are taking responsibility for our religion. Anything that advances religion will be protected, he added.
The President congratulated Somalis and Muslims worldwide on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. He added that the significance for the Somali people to strengthen their role in the country's peace and development and urged them to help the government in its fight against al-Shabaab.
The President wished the people of Somalia a happy Eid Al Adha and good health and urged them to join hands and open their hearts to each other.
