Use of Viagra over an extended period of time may increase the risk of psychological dependence.
Politicians in the Puntland region of northern Somalia are alarmed by the increased street sales of Viagra to unsuspecting customers. Viagra is a prescription drug typically used to treat male impotence and erectile dysfunction (ED), but there are concerns about how it is dispensed in the region.
Due to the potential risks the drug poses to the general population, the state's members of parliament (MPs) have debated ways to control sales. The regional health authorities have been tasked by the lawmakers to come up with suggestions for how to control how it is dispensed.
Legislators from the area are speaking openly about the issue for the first time. It used to be considered taboo, discussed occasionally behind closed doors. Mr. Abdigani Dhashane, an MP from the area, said, "Discussing this issue is not embarrassing in any way." It is a crucial concern for our health. " "Viagra leads to a number of health issues and has resulted in the deaths of some clients," he continued.
Jama Farah Hassan, the health minister for Puntland, said during the meeting that his department would take further steps to regulate how the medication is given and used. The Health Minister continued, "We will take appropriate action if the considerations are established."
How Does Viagra Work?Viagra, also known as sildenafil, may help treat impotence and erectile dysfunction when used according to a doctor's instructions. The drug works by increasing blood flow to specific body parts, including the male sexual organs. Nevertheless, it may have uncomfortable side effects, particularly in people suffering from coronary heart or kidney illnesses.
Long-term effects of Viagra
Prolonged Viagra use may lead to serious health issues in the future.
• Sensory
Long-term Viagra use has been linked to a number of issues that impact the auditory and visual systems. It has been noted that using Viagra is associated with hearing loss. The chances of transient vision loss and double vision can also rise with prolonged Viagra use. Retinal hemorrhaging and vascular disorders were listed as two possible major adverse effects of Viagra on Dailymed, an online resource for information on FDA-approved medications in the United States.
• Cerebrovascular and Cardiovascular
Strokes and heart attacks are two major short-term side effects of Viagra. Long-term Viagra users may experience vascular adverse effects, including cerebral hemorrhage and transient ischemic attack. Heart palpitations, arrhythmia, and enlarged hearts have all been documented.
• Gastrointestinal
The frequency of dyspepsia and digestive issues, including diarrhea and gastritis, can rise with prolonged use of Viagra.
• Urinary tract
Concerns with urinary tract functions, such as incontinence, an increased incidence of urinary tract infections, and cystitis, can also be side effects of Viagra. According to Drugs.com, there have been several documented cases of anorgasmia, which is the inability to ejaculate among men who use Viagra.
• Psychological
Use of Viagra over an extended period of time may increase the risk of psychological dependence. Men who do not have erectile dysfunction issues are taking the drug recreationally and run the risk of developing a psychological dependence on it.
