The National Police Service has deployed 19 police officers to Somalia on a peacekeeping mission.

The officers will work under the command of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

Director of Planning in the National Police Service, Patrick Ndunda, held a briefing session with the officers on Wednesday.

"The National Police Service has a long history of deploying officers for peacekeeping missions. They have rendered distinguished selfless service on the African continent and around the world aimed at de-escalating violence in war-torn countries," Ndunda said.

The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) was accompanied by the Deputy Director, Human Capital Development Robert Mureithi, and other senior police officers.

Inspector General of the National Police Service and President of AFRIPOL General Assembly Hillary Mutyambai sent his goodwill message to the officer which was delivered by Ndunda.

The IG  urged the officers to display, at all times, dedication and true commitment in discharging duties assigned to them.

He further implored the officers to be good ambassadors, not just for the National Police Service, but also for the country.

Further, Mutyambai advised the officers to conduct themselves with the highest degree of discipline and professionalism.

The Inspector General also enjoined them to respect the laws and customs of their host country and endeavour to bring honour through exemplary service to humanity.

"And ensuring peaceful coexistence by supporting dialogue, training, mentoring, advising, and sharing experiences," he implored the officers.
