Somali parliament to hold a joint session in Mogadishu

Sunday June 12, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's bicameral lawmakers will hold their first joint session on Sunday since the election of the country's president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The agenda for the session is the first reading of the Somali Government's 2022 Budget.

On June 2, Somalia's Lower House parliamentary session was cancelled by the Lower House Speaker, Sheikh Adan Madobe, due to a lack of quorum.

The Speaker said that 70 MPs were present in Villa Hargeisa, and it requires at least two-thirds of its members - or 184 MPS - to be present.

Mohamud was elected in Mogadishu by lawmakers on May 15 after defeating former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
