Garowe (HOL) - Drug gangs killed the commander of Qardho
police station in Puntland's Karkar region, Omar Hiraad Kaatum, following a
shooting in Qardho on Wednesday.
The commander succumbed to his severe injuries. The
perpetrators fled the scene, and security forces are investigating the incident
to apprehend the culprits.
Residents said clashes between Puntland authorities and drug
dealers have resulted in multiple casualties.
Puntland leaders have yet to commend the killing of the
Qardho town police commander.
On Friday, at least three Puntland soldiers were killed and
several others, including civilians, wounded when rival Puntland forces clashed
in Bossaso. The clash occurred along the coast of Bossaso, 1,500km northeast of
Mogadishu.
The fighting was sparked by pre-existing heightened tensions
between police and Puntland Security Forces (PSF), an anti-terror unit.
