Mogadishu (HOL) - Local clan militia forces reportedly captured El-Hareri village district in the Hiiraan region following heavy fighting against al Shabab in the village on Thursday.
Residents said that the fighting came after the clan militia forces attacked al-Shabab positions in the village, which is situated between Tardo and Moqokori villages in the Hiiraan region.
Clan militia fighters told local media that forces received information that members of al-Shabab were gathering in El-Hareri village, which led them to launch a preemptive attack.
The casualties caused by the fight between al-Shabab militants and local militia are unclear.
In the last four months, the al-Qaeda-linked armed group al-Shabab lost several villages to Somali government forces backed by local clan militia groups in the Hiiraan region, killing nearly a thousand of al-Shabab militants.
