Government forces intercept car bomb in Middle Shababbe region

    Jowhar (HOL) - Government forces intercepted a car packed with explosives in the recently liberated village of Ali Gudud mosque in the Middle Shabelle region on Friday morning.

    Military officials said that the government forces seized the car bomb after receiving timely intelligence and safely detonated the car bomb with no casualties.

    Military officials believe the seized vehicle was intended to attack the Turkish-trained Gorgor forces army base in the vicinity of Ali Gadud mosque village.

    Masjid Ali Gaduud was a strategic location for al-Shabab. The group used the location as a tax collection hub, extorting travellers passing between Hiraan, Galgaduud, and Mudug.

    On 30 October, the Somali army and local militias completed the takeover around the Ali Guduud Mosque area in Middle Shabelle after intense fighting against al Shabab.

    Ali Guduud mosque village is about 160km from Somalia's capital.

    Over a hundred Al Shabaab militants were reportedly killed by security personnel during the raid, according to the Somali government.
