Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has fired back at his Garissa Town counterpart Aden Duale for criticising his inaugural speech in Parliament.

Duale on Wednesday took issue with the youthful MP's limited oratory skills and insinuated it was so bad it needed God's intervention.

But on Thursday, Salasya responded in kind and told the seasoned legislator that he is not fit to run the Defence docket which he has been nominated to.

"You are not qualified to be the CS for Defence and I'm telling you for free, I will be number one to ask you questions in the Parliament," he said.

The first-time legislator said he was raising serious issues on the floor of the House and senior MPs like Duale should be doing the same.

On Wednesday, Salasya repeatedly addressed Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei as "madam speaker sir" despite being corrected by his colleagues.

Duale said that such mistakes should not be allowed in Parliament noting that it was a serious issue and God's intervention was needed.

"This is serious, can't be the August House. Mungu saidia (God help)," Duale said.

Salasya had risen to ask Parliament for intervention for electricity to be supplied in his constituency.

He also complained that first time MPs were not being given a chance to contribute to motions and to air their views during proceedings.

In his reaction to Duale's criticism of his oratory skills, Salasya said the cabinet nominee was going to add on to the problems facing the country.

He cited Duale's calls for KDF to be withdrawn from Somalia.

"You want our people to continue to be killed in Boni and being kidnapped to Somalia," he said.

Salasya claimed Duale will be a disappointment to President William Ruto's administration.
