Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Minister of Defense, Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor, met with his Djiboutian counterpart, Hassan Omar Mohamed Burhan and Djibouti's Armed Forces Commander, Gen Zakariye Sheikh Ibrahim, in Djibouti on Monday.
Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed said he discussed the security situation in Somalia and how to eliminate al-Shabaab to achieve peace.
Djibouti's Minister of Defense, Hassan Omar Mohamed, said Somalia’s stability is integral to the broader region and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to helping Somalia in the fight against al-Shabab.
Djiboutian forces serving under African Union forces based in Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiiraan region, have not played a significant role in the ongoing offensive against al Shabab in several parts of the area.
Somalia's Ministry of Information said on Monday that the Somali military, NISA and international partners collaborated on an operation in the Masjid Ali-Gadudd and Bur-olow, also known as Doilile, killing over a hundred Al Shabaab militants during operations over the weekend.
Beledweyne, about 300 kilometres north of Mogadishu, has been the center of recent local community mobilization efforts against al-Shabab.
