Mogadishu (HOL) - One child was killed, and two others, aged 10 and 13, were injured when a landmine exploded as they walked home from a Quranic school in the Miiradde area, 40 kilometres southeast of Beledweyne town on Monday.
The hospital director Mohamed Somali, where the two injured children were admitted, stated that one of the children was seriously injured to his genitals and had fractured bones.
"Two children were brought to us with landmine injuries. The 13-year-old patient is the most seriously injured, with a general genital injury. Bones in his left arm and leg were broken. We are closely monitoring their health conditions and will do our best to treat them here," said Dr. Mohamed Somali.
In the Hiiraan region, there has been heavy fighting for the last month between government forces, anti-al Shabaab militia, and al Shabaab militants.
