Beledweyne (HOL) - At least three police officers, including mine sweepers, were injured after their vehicle hit a roadside bomb on the road leading to Ugaas Khalif airport in Beledweyne on Sunday.
According to eyewitnesses, the soldiers injured in the explosion were minesweepers working at the Beledweyne airport. They were transported to the ATMIS military hospital in Eljale, 3 km northeast of Beledweyne.
Security agencies did not comment on the attack, and no group has claimed responsibility.
Turkish-trained Somali Gorgor commandos and regional militia killed six al Shabab fighters in a security operation in the Burta Da’arow area in the Hiiraan region on Thursday, where Al Shabaab had been operating a large base.
Over the last month, heavy fighting between government forces and their regional allies against al Shabab occurred in several parts of Beledweyne, Mataban, Mahas, Jalalaqsi, and Buulaburte districts, with dozens of people killed on both sides.
