Somali federal lawmaker dies in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (HOL) - Federal lawmaker Mohamed Mursal Borow passed away in Mogadishu on Monday night after a prolonged illness. 

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Lower House Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe expressed their condolences on MP's death and sent them to the late's family.

"To God, we belong, and to Him, we return. I express my condolences to the late Mohamed Mursal Borow's family, relatives, and the Somali people. The MP has long served the Somali country," the President said.

The Speaker of the People's Assembly said that the deceased would be fondly remembered and served the country the most in his time and played a significant role in building the government of Somalia.

"I extend my condolences on behalf of the parliamentary leadership and MPs on the tragic passing of our late brother, Mohamed Mursal Borow. He was a legendary figure who dedicated himself to serving his nation and his people." according to a statement from Madobe.

Somalia’s Premier Hamza Abdi Barre also offered similar condolences on the death of Lower House lawmaker Mohamed Mursal Borow.

Mohamed Mursal Borow was elected to the Lower House from the South West constituency. In September 2018, Mohamed Mursal Borow was critically injured in a UVIED explosion in Mogadishu.

Borow won his second term as an MP in January 2022 during an election in the South West capital of Baidoa.
