Mogadishu (HOL) - Cuba's new non-resident Ambassador to Somalia, Juan Manuel Rodrguez Vázquez, presented his credentials letter to the country's foreign minister, Abshir Omar Jama, in Mogadishu on Monday.
Somali has not had diplomatic relations with Cuba for the past 46 years.
"We agreed that the new ambassador conveyed a message from the Cuban leaders that the two countries should resume diplomatic relations based on cooperation and mutual respect," said Haruse.
Diplomatic relations between Somalia and Cuba began in 1972 but were broken off in 1977 when Cuba supported Ethiopia in the Somalia-Ethiopia war.
Last week, Abshir Omar Jama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received a copy of the credentials of Mohamed-Rachid Ibrahim Yusuf, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the Federal Republic of Somalia.
