Hargeisa (HO) - Jubbaland regional state President Ahmed Mohamed Islam met with the US Deputy Ambassador to Somalia, Ambassador Tim Trenkle, in Kismayo on Thursday.
The Ministers of Planning, Security, Internal Affairs, and the Presidency attended the meeting.
The Ambassador and President Madobe discussed operations against Al Shabab groups, including the offensive to liberate areas still under al Shabab's control in Jubbaland.
They also discussed the stabilization of areas recently liberated from terrorism and how to provide essential services to those in these areas.
The meeting comes days after President Ahmed Mohamed Islam inspected several recently liberated areas from Al Shabab in the Lower Jubba region. The villages included Aw-Qumbale, El-adde, Anjel, and Janay Abadale.
The President and Ambassador also discussed finding a sustainable solution to natural disasters and how to help people recover from the effects of the disasters.
On Wednesday, Somalia's disaster management agency warned about possible flooding in the Shabelle and Jubba rivers. The water levels in the rivers have increased due to heavy rains that have fallen in the mountains of Ethiopia.
