Hyderabad (HOL) - In the early hours of Thursday, a 35-year-old Somali woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her residence in the IAS Colony, Hakimpet, a neighbourhood in north Hyderabad, India. The victim, Awo Ahmed Warsame, was discovered in the bathroom of her home.
Local police report that Warsame entered the bathroom around 2:40 am and did not come out. Her husband, Liban Abdi Ali, became concerned when she did not respond to his knocks on the door. He eventually forced the door open, which had been latched from the inside, and found her with bleeding injuries. She was quickly taken to a private hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The couple had arrived in Hyderabad on March 21 with a medical visa, as Warsame had been unable to conceive and sought in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. She was receiving care at a private hospital in Secunderabad. Hyderabad is a major hub for medical tourism in India, attracting patients from around the globe seeking affordable and high-quality healthcare.
Banjara Hills police have registered the case as a suspicious death under Section 174 of the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) and transferred Warsame's body to Osmania General Hospital for an autopsy.
