Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali government forces recaptured
Budbud, a strategically small district in the Galgudud region of central
Somalia's Galmudug State on Saturday.
Residents reported that government forces retook Budbud
after forcing al-Shabab militants to withdraw from the district.
During a press conference, Abdullahi Ali Aanod, the Ministry
of Defense spokesperson, announced that the army had made significant progress
in the past two days by taking control of several militant bases before
capturing the strategic location of Budbud.
He added that the military has now advanced to El-bur
district, which is still under the group's control.
"The Somali National Army, with the assistance of the
Galmudug Darawish Force and local militia forces, has completely taken control
of Budbud today, a populated location equivalent to a district," said
Abdullah Ali Aanod, the Ministry of Defense spokesperson.
