Gunmen kill former deputy police commander in Beledweyne

    Beledweyne (HOL) - Suspected al-Shabab gunmen armed with pistols killed Noor Hassan Bidar, the former deputy commander of the Beledweyne police station, on Monday afternoon.

    Witnesses reported that the shooting occurred in front of Bidar's home in the Isbartiibo branch of the Bundweyn neighborhood.

    The gunmen quickly fled the scene before the police could arrive to conduct an operation.

    The killing of the officer comes as the security of Beledweyne town has been beefed up since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

    No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but local authorities are investigating the incident.
