Mogadishu (HOL) - A member of the Somali Parliament, Dahabo Susow, has condemned the arrest of former military captain Sheegow Ahmed Ali, following an hours-long security operation in Mogadishu, on Friday night.
Susow said the Somali police captured the Captain at his residence in Mogadishu's Dharkenley district. She decried his arrest as an act of injustice. "The arrest of the only military General we had in the Somali army is unacceptable," she asserted.
The lawmaker underlined that they perceive discrimination in the treatment of the officer. She noted that the government did not attack the other individuals in Mogadishu possessing weapons.
Susow called on the government to immediately release the officer and his army men, saying that the problem caused by the attack was the responsibility of the Somali Government.
At least three Somali soldiers were killed and others wounded during the clash between Somali police forces and military forces loyal to Captain Sheegow Ahmed Ali in the Kawo-Godey neighbourhood in the Dharkenley district on Friday night.
Somali police spokesman Sadiq Adan Ali Doodishe confirmed that the security forces captured the Captain and 24 of his military personnel from his residence, where was the clash's epicenter.
The police accused him of destabilizing the security of the capital and fighting against the security forces. The Police spokesman alleged that stolen mobile phones and fake bank notes were found in his home.
