SCC-Khatumo claims capture of key area from Somaliland army

    Las Anod (HOL) - The SCC-Khatumo administration reported on Friday that the SCC forces have captured the Maraaga area previously controlled by the Somaliland army in the disputed Las Anod town.

    The SCC administration has accused the Somaliland administration of indiscriminately shelling Las Anod with artillery, destroying vital civilian infrastructure.

    "Muse Bihi's army launched a concerted assault from the east and west sides of Las- Anod. Despite the ongoing attack, the people of SSC-Khaatumo and their defence forces stood firm and delivered a severe blow to the invading Somaliland militias, capturing prisoners and technical," the SCC said.

    Somaliland government has not responded to these claims of victory by the administration of Sool, Sanag, and Ayn, collectively known as SCC-Khatumo.

    This follows a recent exchange where the Somaliland and SCC-Khatumo administrations accused each other of initiating the heavy clashes that transpired on Tuesday in Las Anod. The conflict, tragically, resulted in casualties whose identities have not been disclosed.

    The clash on Tuesday took place in the Maraga and Hargaga areas in the eastern part of the town.

    Since February 6, there has been heavy fighting in the northern Somali city of Las Anod between troops of Somalia's breakaway region of Somaliland and local militia from the Dhulbahante clan in the north of Somalia. Hundreds have been killed, while thousands have been displaced from the town.
