Banaadir Administration to Search Garages and Houses for Explosives

Thursday, August 24, 2023 (HOL) - The Banaadir regional administration has released guidelines to bolster the security measures in the capital city, Mogadishu, focusing on properties such as garages and residences within the city's districts.

These guidelines urge security agencies and residents of Mogadishu, as well as its outskirts, to collaboratively enhance the city's security protocols.

According to the directives from the Banaadir region, officials will carry out inspections on garages and homes to ensure there are no explosive materials stored in their properties

"The regional administration is instructing homeowners, especially those with properties not associated with specific neighborhoods in the city and its vicinity, as well as garage owners, to allow inspections. These security officials aim to identify any explosive materials," stated Saalah Dheere, the spokesman for the Banaadir regional administration.

This initiative by the Banaadir administration follows a high-level security meeting in Mogadishu chaired by the Somali Prime Minister, Hamse Abdi Barre, just a day earlier.

Recently, Mogadishu has been grappling with a surge in security breaches and attacks, primarily from the Al-Shabaab group. These attacks range from bombings to direct confrontations. Notably, the previous night saw an aggressive assault by Al-Shabaab on a police station in the Kahda district, leading to casualties among the government's defense forces.
